I walked by woods in north jersey at night and heard the weirdest noise described below. explanation please!?

this literally happened minutes ago and i just wanna say i was scared beyond all doubt when i heard this noise. alrite so ill give u background its like really late at night and im walking by some woods and i hear this noise. at first there was a light sporadic shuffle that sounded almost like a light thump that got slowly but steadily louder. the time in between the thumps were a solid one to two seconds. at first i thought it was a rabbit but it almost sounded like a deer slowly making its way towards me. all of a sudden whatever it was let out an extremely loud huff. it literrally sounded like a bull right before it charges. then i heard another thump. then it let out another huff. then a thump. it went on with this shuffle then huff then silence routine until whatever it was slowly made its way back deep into the woods again i swear to god this is no joke please i would just love it if someone just said it was a bear or a ually active deer's mating call but wtf honestly
