Should Beethoven's music be played too stacatto and overlly exaggerated?

I have a piano teacher who says the total opposite to my Uncle (who is also a piano teacher) about my Beethoven op.2 no.1 piece. My piano teacher tells me to play the first movement as stacatto and dynamically ranged as possible (loud being really loud) whilst my uncle wants me to be more gentle and more 'exquisite'. Its quite impossible to fit both natures into my one piece since that the qualities are completely different. Does anybody know whats the right way to play Beethoven? My piano exam is coming up really soon and I don't want to learn to play it both ways. please help thanks!
