Getting e-mail on your cell phone?

i know if you get the data or internet plan on cell phone it will cost like $30 a month, but im looking to get the Samsung Blackjack 2 and am wondering, does e-mail cost money to get? are there monthly fees for e-mail, if so how much for AT&T?
