How could women possibly be upset at a lack of chivalry among young men?

The idea of chivalry is that you give preferential treatment to the woman you're interested in, because you are interested in her. I think that if a woman is interested in a man, the man would appreciate any preferential attention she shows him over other men. If you're not in a relationship with the person and still expect "chivalry" out of them, that seems a bit strange, but I guess I could see how that would be an ego boost. Still, I think it would be far better to expect for people to be respectful and be kind to everyone, regardless of their gender. Wouldn't the world be a better place like that? Just because women said that they didn't want preferential treatment doesn't automatically mean that they wanted you to be rude and disrespectful to them.
