Regarding surround for multi fuel stove?

hi recently installed multifuel stove in to existing fireplace opening but just noticed the wooden surround i had on my open fire is now getting scorched from the heat from the stove any ideas if there is something i could get to protect the wood from the heat dont really want to change the wooden surroind there is a 4inch piece of slate all arond the stove is ther anything i could put over the stove to protect the wood please note the sides of the wooden surround are not getting scorched its only top sorry if my question is long winded but could do with somw advice thanks
